Trump to Tech Leaders: Push for Immigration Reform

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Trump told tech CEOs this week that he wants to see comprehensive immigration reform and urged them to call on their senators and members of Congress for legislation, according to reports from the meeting.

The meeting Monday included leaders of top technology companies — including Amazon, Apple, Google and Microsoft — to discuss ways to modernize the federal government.

Tech executives at the meeting pushed for practical solutions on high-skilled immigration and for the administration to show more compassion toward Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients.

And these solutions are in line with what the majority of Americans want to see on immigration.

Nearly two-thirds of Americans support a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants provided that they meet certain requirements, according to a survey report released today from the Public Religion Research Institute.

“Good idea: Tech executives should take Trump’s advice and call their elected officials to urge broad immigration reform,” said Ali Noorani, Executive Director at the National Immigration Forum. “The tech industry and American workers across the country need effective solutions that uphold our shared values, keep our communities safe and facilitate an economy that works for employers and workers alike.”
