WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Supreme Court announced today it would consider the case on President Trump’s travel and refugee ban executive order and would allow parts of the ban to proceed in the meantime.
For now, the justices agreed that only foreign nationals who have relationships with persons or entities in the United States would be allowed to enter the country.
The announcement follows rulings from the 4th and 9th U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals to uphold judges’ blocks on travel from six Muslim-majority countries and on refugee resettlement.

“The court has taken the appropriate step in granting cert and reviewing the constitutionality of the travel and refugee ban. We believe the discriminatory nature of the order is clear and we hope the court will strike down the entirety of the ban.
“A travel ban aimed at people from Muslim-majority countries does not align with our shared values as Americans, nor is it an effective way to ensure our national security. Religion-based discrimination is not what our nation stands for.
“We need solutions that uphold America’s longstanding tradition of welcoming refugees fleeing violence and persecution, leading with compassion instead of fear.”
