Washington, D.C. — A bipartisan bill being introduced in the Senate today would help address the situation at the border.
The bill, introduced by Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Arizona), seeks to improve and expedite processing of recent arrivals, including asylum seekers, while providing additional resources and facilities along the border.
“This is a positive step that bodes well for the chances for immigration reforms this year. We commend Senators Cornyn and Sinema for working across party lines to introduce a bill that addresses current challenges at the U.S.-Mexico border,” said Ali Noorani, President and CEO of the National Immigration Forum.
“The question is, how do we build on this bipartisanship? We need members of Congress to embrace a similar spirit as they address other reforms: for Dreamers, for farmworkers and for Temporary Protected Status recipients.
“The introduction of this solutions-focused bill is critical, and we believe it furthers the conversation around much-needed reforms.”
