More than 15 organizations from the national security, faith, business, and advocacy communities call for Congress to stay focused on solutions.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sixteen members of the Alliance for a New Immigration Consensus (ANIC), a coalition representing the national security, faith, business, agriculture, education, and advocacy communities, released the following statement today urging senators to stay focused on the task at hand to deliver solutions that improve the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border:

“The vast majority of Americans are demanding that their elected representatives roll up their sleeves this year and deliver solutions that secure our border both through proper funding and by creating an orderly process for legal migration,” the Alliance for a New Immigration Consensus (ANIC) members said.

“Current border security policies and the asylum process in the U.S. can no longer adequately deal with the new global migration reality. Executive action at the border is a flawed and temporary substitute for legislation. Inaction from Congress perpetuates the problem and undermines security going forward, adversely impacting the general public, Border Patrol officers, and migrants.”

“This is a complex situation in which Americans want Congress to take a foundational and bold step forward this year to secure the border with infrastructure improvements and orderly, humane processes for managing migration and asylum claims. Going forward, Congress must also provide a permanent solution for Dreamers and update an out-of-date and inadequate work visa system.”

ANIC members represented include the following: Association of Equipment Manufacturers, Border Perspective, Council on National Security and Immigration, The Episcopal Church, Essential Worker Immigration Coalition, Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, George W. Bush Institute, Hispanic Leadership Fund, Mormon Women for Ethical Government, National Association of Evangelicals, National Immigration Forum, National Retail Federation, National Roofing Contractors Association, Niskanen Center, State Business Executives, and U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
