Time’s Up: Congress Must Pass Bipartisan Bill for Dreamers Now

WASHINGTON, D.C. — As pressure from President Trump, immigration advocates and Dreamers continues to mount, Congress must continue the bipartisan progress toward a legislative solution for Dreamers.

Recent developments indicate that a bipartisan group of senators are eager to move a solution forward to address Dreamers, border security and the legal immigration system.

Trump said he is ready and willing to sign a bill that strikes the right balance between compassion for Dreamers and smart security — as he put it, a “bill of love.”

Meanwhile, evangelical Dreamers have been hitting the Hill hard this week, meeting with both Republicans and Democrats to demonstrate the urgency of the situation.

The business community defended Dreamers Wednesday when more than 100 CEOs from major companies including IBM, General Motors, Facebook and Dropbox sent a letter to Congress urging them to pass an immigration bill by Jan. 19.

And conservative ads launched today are urging Congress to work with the Trump administration on a bipartisan solution on Dreamers and border security.

“We are encouraged by bipartisan discussions in the administration and on the Hill on a way forward for Dreamers,” said Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum. “But time is running out. Congress must stay focused on striking a deal that balances the needs of Dreamers with smarter border security now.”
