Unique Border Voice, National Security Leader Join Forum as Fellows

Michael DeBruhl, a former Border Patrol agent, Customs and Border Protection executive and director of a migrant shelter in El Paso, Texas, has joined the National Immigration Forum as a fellow.

He joins Theresa Cardinal Brown, a fellow since last year and Department of Homeland Security alumna who served in the George W. Bush and Barack Obama administrations. She also serves as a leader on the Council on National Security and Immigration.

“I look forward to continue to add depth-of-experience fidelity to border-focused discussions and to share ideas that advance border policies that are secure and humane,” said DeBruhl.

“I am thrilled to continue working with the National Immigration Forum as a fellow, using my experience in and out of government to find ways to address immigration and border security from new angles, including national security, law enforcement, and the faith perspectives,” Cardinal Brown said.

In addition, Forum Senior Fellow Linda Chavez’s fellowship is winding down. “The National Immigration Forum has been an invaluable source of reliable research, analysis, and support for immigration reforms. It has been my honor to serve as senior fellow since 2021, and I look forward to continuing to work with the Forum in my retirement,” Chavez said.

“Our fellows’ unique perspectives will continue to contribute to a reasonable conversation around immigration to which the Forum remains committed,” said Jennie Murray, President and CEO of the National Immigration Forum.
