WASHINGTON, D.C.  — The following is a statement by Ali Noorani, Executive Director of National Immigration Forum, in response to the arrest and detention by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials of Daniel Ramirez Medina, a 23-year-old DACA recipient with no criminal record:

“By all indications, Daniel Ramirez Medina does not represent a threat to the community and his arrest is a gross waste of valuable law enforcement resources. This lack of enforcement priorities serves to undermine public safety and sows fear in our communities.

“Clearly, this detention is a result of the elimination of prioritization under President Trump’s executive order on interior immigration enforcement.

“Daniel’s arrest and detention indicates that ICE is on the road to full implementation of Trump’s immigration executive orders — with real consequences not only for DACA recipients but for the millions of Americans who have come to know and love them as friends and family.”
