Washington, D.C. — The Supreme Court ruled this morning that the Trump administration may terminate parole for Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan and Venezuelan immigrants.
The ruling will affect more than half a million people who have been protected — and eligible for work authorization — under the program.
“This situation is a microcosm of our broken immigration policies and why Congress needs to step in with immigration and border reforms,” said Jennie Murray, President and CEO of the National Immigration Forum. “Any president has a lot of authority over whether to utilize parole. But hundreds of thousands of people tried to do things the right way, and now their lives are upended.
“The loss of authorization for so many people who have been working lawfully also will affect American employers and workers.
“For immigration and border processes that keep us secure and make our processes orderly, Republicans and Democrats in Congress must step in.”
