Since becoming a New American Workforce partner two years ago, Nokia has been helping its eligible permanent resident employees by offering assistance with the citizenship process at both its Sunnyvale (San Jose area) and San Diego worksites. The information technology company has reached out to 900 employees at the two facilities to offer citizenship information and application workshops. Thanks to the collaboration, many of its employees have been able to apply for citizenship. Ashok Ravula, originally from India and an employee at Nokia Sunnyvale, was able to learn about the process and obtain citizenship through the program.
Having previously put off applying, Ashok is now a U.S. citizen. He stated, “If it wasn’t for the workshop, I wouldn’t have done the citizenship process right away. I didn’t apply before because I didn’t know how and couldn’t find time to do it. I am very thankful. It was very useful and accessible. It means a lot to me that our employer is doing these things. The sessions were outstanding and I would rate them the highest amount of stars.”
