WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Trump administration announced Sunday that it would implement new restrictions as part of its travel ban, now affecting people entering the United States from Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen.
The following is a statement by Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum:
“Security is important, but so is a country that welcomes tourism and trade with our partners around the globe; the two aren’t mutually exclusive. How we communicate and execute new security measures sends an important message to the rest of the world.
“These new measures must abide by the values we hold dear, the values enshrined in our Constitution. What we do and what we say when it comes to security should not weaken our economy or make the important job of our military harder.
“When we lead with freedom and practical solutions over fear, all Americans are safer.”
