Lone Star College: Doraine Bailey’s Participant Testimonial

America is a land of opportunity. With the motto of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as a guide, Americans are free to decide where to live, where to work, and how to pursue their American Dream. Embedded in this spirit, Lone Star College in Houston tries every day to live up to our country’s values and create opportunities for its students and employees to learn and prosper. As an example of this commitment, Lone Star College partnered with New American Workforce and since has supported its eligible immigrant employees, like Doraine Bailey, with the U.S. citizenship process at the worksite.

At 20 years of age, Doraine decided to move from her native Jamaica to the U.S. in pursuit of continuing her education. She started at Lone Star College and eventually received her bachelor’s degree, which opened numerous new career opportunities for her. During her time at school, she also met and fell in love with her now husband. After getting married and receiving her green card, Doraine began working at Lone Star College as a student assistant. She was excited to hear that her employer was offering citizenship services to its eligible employees and successfully filled out her citizenship application at the worksite.

“This was my new home. I wanted to be able to work without any restrictions. I wanted a sense of security. I wanted to be with my husband.”

Through the partnership between Lone Star College and New American Workforce, Doraine completed her American Dream and is now a U.S. citizen! She happily lives and works in Houston with her family and is excited to finally be able to fully participant in her new community.
