JW Marriott Marquis Miami is one of New American Workforce‘s 20 hospitality industry business partners in the Miami area. Since the hotel joined the project in July 2015, they have already provided outreach and education on the benefits of U.S. citizenship to their 300+ employees through invitations to their on-site citizenship workshop. One hotel employee who has taken advantage of the citizenship assistance is Doris Ortiz. Originally from Colombia, Doris is now approaching the final step in her process to become a new American after she got help learning about and applying for citizenship through the project. Doris told us:

“The program was excellent. I didn’t know how to go about becoming a citizen. They talked to us and helped us afford it. I want to be a citizen of the United States. To me, citizenship means a better quality of life and freedom. By offering the workshops, the hotel shows that they care about the well-being of their employees. I’ve been working here for 5 years in housekeeping. Next month I have my interview to become a citizen. I’m nervous, I’m excited and I’m studying hard. Achieving this will be a dream come true.”
