Washington, D.C. — Sixty companies and national trade associations issued a letter today to Speaker Johnson, Majority Leader Schumer, Democratic Leader Jeffries, and Republican Leader McConnell urging them to work together to advance a permanent legislative solution for Dreamers.
“Dreamers make essential contributions to America’s economic well-being, playing a vital role in the workforce, starting businesses, and creating jobs,” the signatories stated in the letter, organized by the National Immigration Forum. “They are also consumers with significant purchasing power and contribute millions of dollars in tax revenue to federal, state, and local governments. American businesses in numerous key sectors rely on DACA beneficiaries in their workforce.”
The signatories range from Fortune 100 and 500 companies to trade organizations representing large and small, family-owned businesses across the country. These businesses rely on Dreamers to meet workforce demands and deliver consistent, quality services in the American market.
“Businesses have not forgotten that we need a lasting solution for DACA recipients and other Dreamers. America will be stronger when Republicans and Democrats work together to pass reforms that offer certainty to Dreamers, their employers and their communities. These kinds of solutions have remarkable support,” said Jennie Murray, President and CEO of the National Immigration Forum.
Since the creation of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) in 2012, thousands of DACA recipients have been granted temporary protections that enable them to contribute to their communities, both as employees and consumers. However, DACA faces ongoing legal challenges and was again ruled unlawful in September. Though current recipients remain protected while the ruling is appealed, millions of lives hang in the balance in the absence of a federal solution.
