MIAMI — South Florida business leaders pushed for a solution for Dreamers and asked Congress to act with urgency on a press call today.

Business voices from the health care and hospitality industries called on the Florida delegation, including Sen. Marco Rubio, to pass legislation without delay that would allow Dreamers to stay and work in the country, without provisions that would undercut our current legal immigration pathways.

Elsewhere today, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush also called on Congress to act.

“God forbid you actually took on something that was controversial and paid a political price,” Bush told USA Today. “That’s the attitude in D.C. right now. Certainly Sen. Rubio is no different in that regard. Marco is a talented guy and he understands this issue really well, and maybe behind the scenes he’s working hard. But at some point, his leadership would be really helpful.”

The following are quotes from Florida business leaders:

Mike Fernandez, Chairman and CEO, MBF Healthcare Partners:
“We call on Congress — and specifically Senator Marco Rubio — to act now. The fate and lives of more than 800,000 Dreamers are in their hands — 49,000 of whom reside in Florida.”

Wendy Kallergis, President and CEO, Greater Miami and the Beaches Hotel Association:
“We in the hospitality industry in Florida call on our representatives and the administration to collaborate to come up with an immediate and permanent solution for Dreamers. We need these 800,000 young, legal workers, and many others, to ensure our industry continues to thrive as an economic driver for the state and nation.”

Jonathan Plutzik, Owner, The Betsy, South Beach:
“A thoughtful, comprehensive and rapid resolution for Dreamers not only reflects the basic goodness of America, it is also essential for the continued functioning and growth of our economy. We must keep families intact and warmly embrace those who have become well established, contributing members of our community.”

Ali Noorani, Executive Director, National Immigration Forum:
“Dreamers are crucial to Florida’s employers, economy and communities. Republican leaders need to seize this opportunity and put together solutions.”
