Federal Courts: Travel Ban Remains Problematic

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Federal judges in Maryland and Hawaii have temporarily halted the nationwide implementation of the Trump administration’s latest travel ban.

This third iteration of the ban seeks to restrict people entering the United States from Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen.

The following is a statement from Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum:

“Travel bans do not align with our shared values as Americans. The courts now appear to be expressing similar concerns.

“A travel ban helps neither the businesses that depend on foreign visitors nor the American workers they employ, and it sends a negative message to the world.

“We need processes that keep us secure and allow us to maintain a strong economy through a welcoming posture toward trade and tourism. The two are not mutually exclusive.”
