WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Tuesday deadline remains in effect for the Trump administration to reunite more than 100 children younger than 5 with their parents after it separated them at the border.
At a hearing today, administration lawyers said that 2 of 102 such children have been reunited and that they anticipate reuniting only an additional 54 by Tuesday. A federal district court judge did not extend the deadline and called all parties back to court on Tuesday for an update.
“The administration’s policy that separated families is cruel, and now they can’t clean up their own mess,” said Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum. “There is no justifiable reason for the administration to drag its feet here. It needs to act with the greatest urgency.
“Every day of separation hurts children and parents alike and outrages all of us who value family unity.”
