WASHINGTON, D.C. — With a workshop today, the New American Workforce launched a program to help eligible employees at Miami International Airport (MIA) pursue U.S. citizenship.
Employees of the airport’s vendors — more than 225 businesses in all — as well as employees’ family members are eligible to participate in the National Immigration Forum’s New American Workforce, in partnership with Miami-Dade County. The airport joins more than 50 participating locations in the Miami area and more than 350 in eight cities nationwide. MIA is the first Florida airport to participate.
Today’s workshop provided information about the benefits of and qualifications for citizenship. An onsite citizenship application workshop with an accredited legal service provider will follow within a month.
“We are excited to launch this crucial partnership because we know the power of citizenship,” said Krystina François, Executive Director of The Office of New Americans of Miami-Dade. “Our county is committed to helping our residents achieve economic stability and thrive. This initiative and the work of my office provide much needed information, legal services and resources to eligible legal permanent residents to help them succeed. When our residents thrive, their families, neighbors and businesses thrive.”
“We are pleased to partner with Miami International Airport and Miami-Dade County to offer citizenship assistance to more people who are eligible,” said Jennie Murray, Director of Integration Programs at the National Immigration Forum. “The leadership of Miami-area employers allows new Americans to contribute more fully at work and in their communities.”
