For more than two years Baptist Health South Florida, a not-for-profit health care organization, has partnered with New American Workforce to provide free on-site assistance to help eligible employees and their family members become American citizens. The organization has offered education on the benefits of citizenship to its 14,000 employees through invitations to 9 information and application sessions held at the worksite. Thanks to these workshops, 120 employees there have already applied for citizenship. Originally from Jamaica, Maureen Gordon, a registered nurse at Baptist Health South Florida, was able to become a new American citizen.
Although having struggled to obtain citizenship, Maureen states “It is important for me to be a citizen to go back to school and to see a difference in my life. Baptist Health helped me by deducting money from my paycheck to help me pay for the citizenship application. They made the process so much easier for me because I didn’t have to go anywhere else; the workshop was in the same place as my job. The workshop was exceptional! The people who helped me were clear and passionate, which made the process great! I would definitely recommend New American Workforce.”
