The American GI Forum of the United States has unanimously passed a resolution to endorse and support Veterans for New Americans, a national coalition of veterans and veteran service organizations.
The American GI Forum of the United States is the first congressionally chartered veteran service organization to add its support of Veterans for New Americans. The American GI Forum of the United States will leverage its national network of state and local chapters, as well as its entire membership, to work proactively with Veterans for New Americans to support immigration policies that will strengthen national security, enhance military readiness and support immigrant service members and veterans, as well as immigrant family members of all who serve or served.
“Since our founding, the American GI Forum of the United States has strongly advocated for the civil rights of millions of Hispanic veterans and their families, many of whom have strong immigrant ties,” said Angel Zúñiga, National Commander, American GI Forum of United States. “Our national leadership and network of veterans are proud of the unanimous approval of our resolution to endorse the Veterans for New Americans principles. We invite all congressionally chartered veteran service organizations to do the same so that we can collectively ensure all immigrant service members and veterans are treated with full dignity and respect as new Americans.
“We welcome the American GI Forum of the United States to our growing national coalition of veteran leaders,” said Octavio Hinojosa, Veterans for New Americans National Coordinator. “We are committed to raising awareness about the negative impact our current immigration policies have on our national security, military readiness, and thousands of immigrant service members and their families. We are honored to have the unwavering support of one of our nation’s leading veteran service organizations.”
The resolution, presented by Texas and California state chapters, passed at the American GI Forum of the United States’ 69th Annual National Conference, held July 20-23 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
