‘Administrations Should Be Able to Set Priorities’

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The following is a quote from Jennie Murray, President and CEO of the National Immigration Forum, following this morning’s Supreme Court ruling on states’ ability to challenge the federal government’s immigration enforcement guidelines:

“Presidential administrations should be able to set priorities in immigration enforcement. Focusing on public safety threats is crucial to our safety and security, as well as good governance. It’s good news that the court recognized the executive branch’s purview in this case.

“Congress, not the courts, should be the venue for open, solutions-focused dialogue about the improvements our immigration and border policies need.”

The Forum published an explainer on the guidelines in question, and in December the Law Enforcement Immigration Task Force posted a separate explainer about the issues in the court case.
