A&A Building Maintenance has been working with New American Workforce since 2013 to provide citizenship assistance to their employees. The company is one of 18 Building Skills Partnership members to assist their workforce in the San Jose area. A&A employees have benefited by learning about the citizenship process at free company-provided information sessions and by receiving individual legal help to file their applications. One of many A&A employees who received education and assistance through the project is Irma Sanchez. Irma has been working in A&A’s cleaning services for 5 years. Thanks to her company’s assistance, she recently became a citizen.

“The workshops were fantastic, they really motivated me to apply and the classes were excellent. The woman who I worked with communicated with me very well, which really helped. I learned a lot. I applied for citizenship because I wanted to be able to vote and access better benefits. It was very important that my company connected me with this program. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have gotten started. I am now an American citizen. It was a wonderful experience for me!”
