The Betsy-South Beach: Yolanda’s Participant Testimonial

The Betsy-South Beach has been assisting their immigrant employees with the process of becoming U.S. citizens since 2013. The boutique hotel in Miami’s South Beach area helped lead the way as one of the first New American Workforce business partners.  Their free on-site citizenship information and application workshops have made it possible for many of their 160 hotel employees to learn about and apply for U.S. citizenship. The Betsy’s New American Workforce story has been featured by the White HouseAssociated Press and more.

One employee at The Betsy, Yolanda Oruc, is originally from Uruguay and works at the hotel as a mini bar attendant. She became a U.S. citizen through New American Workforce’s on-site assistance, which helped make the application process accessible and affordable. In Yolanda’s own words: “I applied for citizenship because I needed to vote and because I had been in this country long enough to be eligible. I hadn’t applied before because I didn’t have the money, but I wanted to apply as soon as I could afford it. The workshops were excellent and I have recommended them to other people.”
