WASHINGTON, D.C. — The sharing economy can be a win-win for immigrants, their families and their communities, according to a new report, “Immigrants sharing homes: Opening doors to opportunity.”
Home-sharing platforms such as Airbnb can provide much-needed supplemental income for immigrants as they build new lives in the U.S. The report and its executive summary share the experiences of eight immigrant Airbnb hosts and how hosting has helped them pursue the American dream.
Immigrants in New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago are featured. A letter aimed at policymakers who are considering regulating home sharing highlights the report.
“The sharing economy is a win for all Americans. It offers new economic opportunities for immigrants, their neighbors and the cities and towns in which they live,” said Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum. “Smart policies can regulate these new activities while ensuring that immigrants across the country are still able to access opportunities afforded by the sharing economy.”
