Looking for Leaders on Immigration Reform

Assistant Director of Communications

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In light of Eric Cantor’s primary defeat this evening, Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum, made the following statement:

“In states and districts where Republicans led on immigration and did not try to play both sides, they won handily. Look at Lindsey Graham in South Carolina, Renee Ellmers in North Carolina and a host of others.

“Eric Cantor’s loss is about local politics more than immigration. At the same time, he tried to play both sides of the immigration debate, and he got burned.

“Constituents are looking for leaders. It’s time for Speaker Boehner to lead immigration reform forward.”
