Denham Introduces Constructive Alternative to Goodlatte’s Harsh Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. — This week, Rep. Jeff Denham (R-California) introduced a resolution that, if passed, would bring four immigration reform bills to the House floor.

The resolution, which has 17 original co-sponsors, would offer alternatives to the Securing America’s Future Act, proposed by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Virginia), which would dramatically transform our immigration system. Those alternatives comprise the bipartisan DREAM Act and USA Act, and an immigration bill of Speaker Paul Ryan’s choice.

“Congressman Denham’s proposal offers a much-needed constructive path forward on immigration. Congress has failed to advance such solutions for far too long,” said Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum. “Lawmakers need to seize this opportunity to make the right choice for immigrants and the American workers who rely on and value them.

“Congress should reject harmful proposals such as Chairman Goodlatte’s in favor of practical, bipartisan solutions. We need urgency, but not at the expense of good policy.”
