Conservative Leaders Press for Dreamers Solution

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Conservative leaders sent a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and members of Congress today calling for legislation that would allow Dreamers to stay in the United States.

This letter — signed by a “who’s who of the conservative movement,” according to conservative blogger and radio host Erick Erickson — adds to conservative leaders’ push for a solution this year for Dreamers, including recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) following the Trump administration’s rescission of the program. Once passed, such a solution would take at least seven months to implement.

Elsewhere, a group called Voices of Christian Dreamers released a video last week to highlight the role that faith has played in their lives and to show their gratitude for opportunities in the U.S. The group estimates that 200,000 people who have been granted DACA since 2012 identify as evangelical Christians.

And a video released today tells the story of Bernardo Castro, a Mormon Dreamer in Utah, and how DACA has allowed him to work, attend Brigham Young University and contribute to the country he loves.

“Conservative momentum for a solution for Dreamers this year is building,” said Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum. “As Congress debates how to move forward, each day people’s lives, the well-being of our communities and the strength of our economy are at stake.”
