“The proposal President Trump put forward today is an important step toward a bipartisan legislative solution that secures our border and permanently protects Dreamers and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipients.
“The president’s offer has a steep price. For example, Trump’s proposal includes funding for a permanent border wall, but the solution for DACA and TPS holders is only temporary.
“The bottom line is that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell holds the key. He has an opportunity to bring both sides together and arrive at legislation that improves border security and allows DACA and TPS recipients to contribute permanently, without fear of deportation.
“President Trump’s remarks today were a reminder that compromise is possible. Faith, law enforcement and business leaders, to say nothing of Americans overall, want our leaders to reach the compromises that move the nation forward. It’s up to Sen. McConnell and other congressional leaders to reach these compromises.”
