July 10, 2014
WASHINGTON – Earlier this evening, President Obama met with Texas Governor Rick Perry and faith and business leaders in Dallas to discuss the crisis on the border. Following the meeting, the President called on Congress to approve his request for $3.7 billion in emergency funding to deal with the border crisis.
In response to the meeting, Ali Noorani, executive director of the National Immigration Forum made the following statement:
“Humanitarian crises require bold solutions.
"While the request for supplemental funding will provide some immediate relief, real solutions for real challenges are urgently needed.
"The House of Representatives has a vision for immigration reform – secure the border, treat the undocumented humanely. Now they need to seize the opportunity and pass immigration reform.”
