Path for immigration bill remains uncertain in U.S. House

Even if the Senate passes an immigration bill currently before one of its committees, the legislation will face serious roadblocks in the House. But immigration advocates aren’t giving up hope. They say the House will have to confront the issue of immigrants already in the country illegally. “In order for immigration reform to pass, both parties have to own the solution,” said Ali Noorani, executive director of the National Immigration Forum, a policy group that supports a path to citizenship.

"We've been talking about immigration reform for decades," Mims said, "and this bill gets something done." Amplifying her message, Mims also contributed to a pro-immigration bill telephone conference call with reporters, organized by the National Immigration Forum as part of what the group calls the "Bible, Badges and Business" coalition for immigration reform.
