Speaker Boehner’s Comments Emphasize Need to Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. — During a press conference this morning, Speaker John Boehner spoke of the path forward for immigration reform in the House and reaffirmed his commitment to getting immigration reform done.
Tomorrow, faith, law enforcement and business leaders are coming together for a press conference to further double down on the urgency of reform.
Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum, issued the following statement regarding Speaker Boehner’s comments:
“Across the political spectrum, Americans are ready for reform. The 600 conservative leaders who pushed for reform in the House two weeks ago understand the time is now. So do our nation’s millions of businesses, faith communities, law enforcement officers and immigrants.
“But the need for legislative principles is long past. Americans are ready for legislation to move, votes to be taken and bills to be signed that create a 21st century immigration process.
“Speaker Boehner and his leadership team have the support of conservative faith, law enforcement and business leaders in districts across America.
“When 70 percent of likely general election voters in Republican districts rate fixing the immigration system as ‘very important,’ it is time to act.
“Over the years, the policy solutions haven’t changed, but the politics of immigration certainly have. The time is now to pass immigration reform.”
