May 30, 2014
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released an updated Use of Force Policy for its Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency. In addition, the department released an earlier review of its policy by the nonprofit, third-party Police Executive Research Forum (PERF).
Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum, made the following statement regarding the release of these two documents:
“Today’s release continues a positive trend toward transparency at the Department of Homeland Security. We look forward to reviewing the updated policy. We anticipate seeing new policies implemented in a way that promotes measured use of force at the border and that improves border patrol agents’ safety and security.”
