Former Secretary Michael Chertoff, a member of the Bipartisan Policy Center’s (BPC) Immigration Task Force, will join Bibles, Badges and Business for Immigration Reform and the North Carolina Farm Bureau to discuss the current immigration reform debate from his unique perspective as the former Secretary of Homeland Security. Secretary Chertoff was a lead negotiator in the attempt to reform immigration laws in 2007 and was intimately involved in developing and implementing border security and immigration policy.
The politically diverse members of BPC’s Immigration Task Force, including Secretary Chertoff, have agreed upon an initial set of principles and policy recommendations within four key areas that they see as critical to fixing our broken system. These bipartisan recommendations constitute a sampling of areas where stakeholders can compromise, agree on key principles, and move the immigration debate forward. Secretary Chertoff’s keynote will be followed by a panel discussion comprising North Carolina faith and business leaders who will speak about broad reform.
