Major Commitment from House Leadership Propels Reform Forward

LAS VEGAS — On Thursday House Republicans released standards for immigration reform. The standards met with broad support among top Nevada faith and business leaders, who lauded the movement toward much-needed reform and called on Congress to pass reform this year.

The following are quotes from Nevada Bibles, Badges and Business leaders:

Kathia Pereira, Immigration Attorney, Pereira Immigration Law, Las Vegas:

“With the release of the Republican standards on responsible immigration reform, it is clear that we are closer than ever to a reasonable solution to our broken immigration system. The momentum that Republicans are building through these standards shows that they are determined to pass immigration reform this year … The Republican standards established the fundamentals of the reform our immigration system urgently needs. Now, the House needs to move past partisan politics and the determination to create legislation their side deems perfect in exchange for practical solutions that facilitate accountability and a stronger economy.”

Pasqual Urrabazo, Associate Pastor, the International Church of Las Vegas:

“Decades of the present immigration policy have led to an entire population living essentially ‘underground’ for fear of this family separation. This situation is not what this nation was built for — we were designed to be a nation of building families, not one that separates them. We believe the time for reform is now, and that God is giving us a unique window of opportunity to bring about expedient change. We are thankful that the Republican leadership in the House have released statements to guide the conversation and look forward to seeing the legislation that’s comes from these guidelines. It’s clear that there is a broad base of support across the country, and that by enacting carefully crafted legislation, we can impact this generation to build a stronger and more united America.”
