How We Got To 68: Bibles, Badges and Business

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Thursday’s historic 68-32 vote for broad immigration reform in the Senate was the result of the power of key allies across the political spectrum in red and purple states. In Over the past two years, these leaders have come together like never before to put pressure on their members of Congress to fix our broken system.

Influential faith, law enforcement and business leaders are new the voices behind this win. With their unique perspectives, the Bibles, Badges and Business for Immigration Reform network (BBB) has become a driving force in the immigration debate.

The following is a quote from Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum:

“The victory in the Senate was made possible by the continued wave of support from leaders in business, faith and law enforcement. There is no doubt that these powerful voices reached moderate and conservative Senators and made huge inroads for compromise. Through letters, calls and meetings with legislators, Bibles, Badges and Business leaders were key to helping these Senators realize that immigration reform isn’t about politics, but about who we are as a country and how we fulfill our nation’s promise.

“As our attention turns to the House, BBB leaders are recommitting themselves to making the message of the American people clear: We simply cannot replace broad, commonsense reform with a patchwork of piecemeal laws. We need a 21st century immigration system that reinforces our American values and honors our heritage as a nation of immigrants.”
