City of Washington, D.C., Partners With Immigrant Integration Program

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the City of Washington, D.C., is partnering with New American Workforce to make citizenship services available at the worksite for city employees.

New American Workforce, a project of the National Immigration Forum, works with more than 250 businesses in eight cities to assist eligible immigrant employees with the citizenship process at the worksite. A series of citizenship application workshops helps lawful permanent residents take the next step toward their American dream.

Bowser announced the partnership at a naturalization ceremony today, where she discussed immigrants’ contributions to the city.

“Through this first-ever partnership in the District, we are putting our D.C. values into action and connecting more Washingtonians to the resources and support they need to successfully complete the naturalization process,” Bowser said. “Working together as leaders, neighbors and friends, we will remove barriers faced by immigrants in our community and help more residents access the benefits of citizenship.”

“By facilitating opportunities for immigrant employees, Mayor Bowser and the City of Washington, D.C., are ensuring that new Americans have the opportunities, skills and status they need to reach their full potential,” said Ali NooraniExecutive Director of the National Immigration Forum. “We’re grateful and proud to add Washington, D.C., as a New American Workforce partner.”
