On April 27, ICE issued its response to the recommendations of the Secure Communities Task Force The response was totally inadequate, amounting to little more than a grab bag of initiatives ICE was pursuing anyway—many only tenuously related to the Secure Communities program.

What if the Supreme Court’s decision on the constitutionality of Arizona’s anti-immigrant law, S.B. 1070, doesn’t matter? No matter how the court rules, consensus is emerging that Arizona and the states that have copied its discriminatory law are engaging in bad policy and bad politics — the type that could turn neighbor against neighbor and state against state as disparate immigration approaches rattle communities.

On May 10th the President made a major speech in El Paso on the need for immigration reform. In Congress, the DREAM Act was re-introduced in the House and Senate. The Administration announced procedures to protect workers from deportation in employer-focused immigration enforcement actions.
