Business Leaders Urge Congress to Protect Family-Based Immigration, Dreamers

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today dozens of businesses, business leaders and organizations sent a letter to members of Congress, urging a narrow immigration solution that protects families and Dreamers.

The letter comes as immigration legislation is brought to the Senate floor for the first time in nearly five years. Debate began Monday evening and may continue at least until the March 5 deadline the president set when he rescinded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

“At a time when we compete with other countries for talent, we cannot afford to lose out because our immigration policies are more restrictive,” the letter states. “ … Family members can help immigrants integrate and navigate the job search process allowing them to enter the workforce more quickly.”

“Immigration policies that keep families together are a key element of not only our nation’s values, but our economic vitality,” said Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum. “We must uphold family values and make sure the immigrants we need to keep our nation prosperous have the family support systems that allow them to contribute to their fullest potential.”
